A note from Elena
How a cardigan started all this.
I turned fifty and noticed I'd stopped shopping. Not because I didn't care. I'd just walk into a store, look at the racks and walk back out. Half of it was made for my daughter. The other half felt like giving up.
I said this out loud one night at Margaret's kitchen table, and the other three nodded so hard I laughed. Claire has three work blazers she hates. Simone lives in the same black jumper on every trip. Rosa said she'd spent twenty years buying clothes "to hide in".
So we made a deal. Each of us would find one piece that made us feel good, and we'd all try it on. Most of them didn't survive the five-woman test. This cardigan did. Soft enough that Rosa wore it to bed. Smart enough for Claire's Monday meetings. Margaret ordered it in red for Christmas before we'd even finished the wine.
